The evolution of music continues as Atlanta singer and rapper Ric Atari enters the scene and takes center stage with a style unlike any other. Ric transitions between singing and rapping with a smooth versatility. Recognized for his exceptional talent and lyrical ability, Ric’s style combines R&B, hip-hop and pop, elevating all to a new dimension.
As his name suggests, Ric reflects the influence of the Atari generation. But although the inspiration from that time is evident, including hints of classic Michael Jackson and Prince, Ric maintains a contemporary and relevant sound.
Ric knew that music was his calling at a young age. He honed his skills as an MC and also wrote lyrics for others, which led to an earlier record deal with Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Dallas Austin.
A mixtape phenom, Ric recently released “Songs in the Key of Autotune.” The mixtape project includes the hit “Better Alone,” along with other standouts, including “I Must Be Special,” “Come Back,” and a song with singer and actress Brandy.
Dubbed “The Cancer” by an industry executive because of his persistent nature, Ric’s drive is propelling him to the forefront as an artist and entrepreneur. He is currently working on a full-length album scheduled for release in 2010 and is involved with several business ventures.
Ric has earned worldwide acclaim as a writer and producer, collaborating with a wide range of music greats like Usher, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Lionel Richie, Snoop Dogg, Nicole Scherzinger from the Pussycat Dolls, Jill Scott, 112 and countless others. But now is his time to shine as an artist.
When Ric chose to follow his dreams in the music industry after high school, he assured his mother, a teacher, that she would have platinum plaques hanging on the wall where his college degree would have been. While Ric values the importance of education, he turned down nine college scholarship offers to pursue his passion for music … and he hasn’t looked back. By the way, he kept his promise…his plaques now hang in the living room of his mother’s house.
